Happy Birthday to me! Well, I'm 27, I officially can't drink my age in beers!! I'm OLD. My boy Andy Martinez took me out on the boat for some birthday rod bendin', and we tore 'em up!!! The coolers are overflowing and I'm at the shop now trying to get a batch done for Christmas. I can't wait for dinner at the Japanese steakhouse, filet & shrimp for two, a warm Sake and a cold Kirin, please!! This will be my last post for 2004, so take your heathen butt to Church, give Him some thanks and praises, hug your Mom, give some good presents out, get some under the mistletoe, and have a SAFE New Years!!! Stay alive in '05!!!
The best thing about going out on the road is coming home to my family!! I missed Nicole and Otis while I went out being "salesman Drew" over the weekend. This weekend capped off a CRAZY week for me. I did 17 Boards, (old record was 12 in a week, SMASHED IT!) Jeremy Creter's picture came out in the Transworld, Christmas is rapidly approaching, and my big 27th is next weekend!! That's 21 for the sixth time just to warn all potential party riders. But this sales trip timed up perfectly! I had some show ponies for sale, I had the mag with me, and there was actually supposed to be SURF! I couldn't wait to check out the shops from Clearwater down to Venice. I grew up 2 hours south in Ft. Myers, but embarassingly had never been to Tampa, St. Pete, Sarasota, and all. I went to some SICK shops and some huge embarassments. Suncoast, in Clearwater was my main goal. I've heard such good things about their shop, and wasn't let down. They have a TON of Solid boards, and the location is unreal. I was stoked to meet Dustin and the crew, and I'm even more stoked to have the priveledge to sell 'em some Inspired's. So if you're in the area, go by and check the new boards out. I'm also proud to say that the Compound in Sarasota, and V-Town in Venice should have a sick batch for ya in the shop early '05. Once the selling was over, I couldn't wait to get to Ft. Myers, see the crew, catch some snook, and hopefully get a surf in. As always, Chris and Kristen Gillespie were the Best Hosts and I'm growing quite attached to their Futon. I got to see the crew, and even the little Sister came out for some seared Ahi last night. The waves were pretty fun! Gillugie and I surfed at Tween Waters on Saturday for the typical "victory at Sea" Gulf Coast slam session, and I quickly remembered all about the shells and surprising power of Captiva when a closeout left bounced me straight on my BUTT! I dinged my board, and was bleeding from my Butt and my knees to ad some embarrassing humility to my misfortune!!! I survived, although it's uncomfortable to sit right now. Sunday was the BEST!! The wind was forcasted to go offshhore, so I looked forward to some perfect mini-barrells at a new spot they call "Wave Pools". Wave Pools is only accessible by boat, and was one of the few good things to come out of the devastation of Hurricane Charley. It's a perfect set up, a little point with anunbelievable A-Frame sandbar in the middle of this 75 yard wide "bay" created from the surge bursting into the back bay behind the island. The island's very narrow and we set up camp under the shade of downed beach trees. My friend Chris Witman is a professional fishing guide in the area and just happens to love to surf this new spot so we were chartered via Wit's 21' Maverick. The boat FLY's (68 mph when he's solo, 62 with us) and they tried to kill me in the suicide seat up front hauling butt in 4" of water!! So after a fun surf, we grilled up some serious shish-kabob's and t-bones, and got FAT!! So 'Kine!! Then everybody paddled back out for the remnants of a quickly fading swell, I used a board sock and a towel and passed out! My trip was capped off watching 2 beautiful Bald Eagles cruise just above me, searching the flats for mullet dinner. Perfect.
So it's a pretty BIG day for me! Actually, a day I never really thought would happen. Jeremy Creter just got a 1 1/2 page shot in Transworld Surf!!!!! My first color shot in a big mag!! I'm so fired up right now. The shot is sick, full Jeremy Hero shot, totally SQUARE over his board, tons of spray, and no question if he pulled it. I love Creter shots!! He's always so solid, you just know he pulls everything. It's a big time for him, No Fear is finally putting the boy on salary...Jeremy's FINALLY getting paid to surf! I'm just happy to be along for the ride!! I really don't know what to write, I'm that amped. But, Christmas is coming, I've got a BUNCH of new Inspired Models coming out this year: the Wizard 2, the SI Ripko, the Flying Squirrell, and the Ketchup to name a few. STAY TUNED!!!!!!!
